What is Fuelo?

Fuelo is a free web app that tracks fuel prices across Greece and turns them into something you can act on. Beyond a plain price list, it gives you national and regional price trends, a trip-cost calculator, price alerts, a personal fuel log, a garage for your vehicles, and an interactive map of fuel stations. It is built to be fast, clean, and honest about where its numbers come from, and it works fully in both English and Greek.

Who is it for?

Anyone who drives in Greece and would rather not overpay. Daily commuters comparing their own area, people planning a longer road trip, and drivers who want to understand their real cost per kilometre over time all get something useful.

Is it really free?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The entire core app is free, with no ads and no tracking. Optional paid plans are planned for later and will add extras such as unlimited alerts and saved cars, saved-station alerts, a weekly digest, longer price history and exports, and access to our data API. The free tier will stay genuinely useful, not a crippled teaser.

Where do the prices come from?

From the official daily bulletins of the Greek Fuel Price Observatory (ΔΙ.Μ.Ε.Α.), published on fuelprices.gr. These report the mean retail price per prefecture for each fuel, with VAT included. An automated job fetches the newest bulletin every day and publishes it to the app, so you always see the most recent official figures without us hand-editing anything.

How often are prices updated?

Once a day, automatically. Official bulletins are released on business days, so on weekends and public holidays the latest available figures stay shown until a new bulletin appears. Each prefecture page shows the date the data was last updated.

Why per prefecture and not per station?

Accepted Answer

The official per-prefecture bulletin provides regional average prices, not the price at each individual station. That is the most reliable public source available today. Per-station prices are on our roadmap and will come from official per-station data and community reports. The app and its database are already built to display them, including a 7-day price history for each fuel at each station, so they will light up the moment the data exists.

How accurate are the prices?

They are indicative regional averages, not a live quote for one specific station. The actual price at a given pump can be a little higher or lower, so always confirm before you fill up. The tax breakdown shown on prefecture pages (product, excise duty and VAT) is an indicative model for transparency, not an official per-litre calculation.

Which fuels are covered?

Unleaded 95, Unleaded 100, Diesel and Autogas (LPG) today. The app is fully data-driven: if the source starts reporting additional or seasonal fuels, such as heating oil in winter, they appear automatically with no change to the app.

Where does the map data come from?

Accepted Answer

Station locations, brands, opening hours and amenities come from OpenStreetMap, a community-maintained map database (licensed under the ODbL). Because it is community data, coverage and detail vary from area to area. We cache the full list of Greek stations in our database and refresh it every night, so the map loads quickly rather than querying a slow external service each time.

How do I use the map?

Open the map and either search a city, village or prefecture, or zoom into an area. Stations appear as branded markers once you are zoomed in. Tap a station to open a panel with its brand, operator, opening hours, address, contact details, the services it offers, and prices when available. A pill at the bottom shows the selected fuel's price range for the prefecture you are viewing.

Can I save stations?

Yes, when you are signed in. Tap a station and use Save to keep it in your Saved stations list, so next time you can find it and get directions in one tap. You can filter the map to show only your saved stations.

Do I need an account?

Accepted Answer

No. Prices, trends, the map, the calculator and the cheapest-fuel leaderboard all work without one. An account is passwordless (you sign in with a secure one-time email link) and syncs your alerts, fuel log, saved cars and saved stations across all your devices.

How do price alerts work?

Accepted Answer

Choose a fuel and an area, set your target price, and pick how you want to hear about it. When the price reaches your target, Fuelo notifies you by email and, if you enable it, by browser push notification. Each alert fires once and then stops, so you are never spammed. You can add and remove alerts at any time.

What does the garage do?

The garage stores your cars with their fuel type and consumption. Your default car then prefills the trip-cost calculator, and you can set consumption straight from your own logged average, so estimates match your real driving rather than a generic figure.

What is the fuel log for?

Log each fill-up and Fuelo works out your real consumption, cost per kilometre, total and yearly spend, and average price paid, with a sparkline of what you have been paying. You can export everything to CSV. Signed out it stays on your device; signed in it syncs privately to your account.

How is my location used?

Only when you allow it, and only inside your browser, to rank the nearest prefectures and stations. Your location is never sent to our servers and never stored.

What data do you store, and where?

If you sign in, your email and the things you choose to save (alerts, fuel log, cars, saved stations and settings) are stored with our database provider so they sync across devices. Signed out, that data stays only on your device. We use only essential cookies (theme, language, sign-in session and your cookie choice) and no advertising or tracking cookies.

Is there an API?

A read-only data API is coming as part of our paid plans. It serves national prices, per-prefecture prices, trends, fuel metadata and the station list, so you can build on Fuelo's data, and it powers our own planned mobile app. Access will be keyed and metered by plan. The web app itself stays free to use.
